Nessus HTML5 client "teaser" screenshots

Renaud Master

Hi there,

As we're gearing towards a public beta for the Nessus HTML5 client, we thought now would be a good time to share some status update on our progress.

As you know, the Nessus interface is currently using Flash. Flash has a lot of advantages as a development platform, but it also has a lot of drawbacks. One of the reason we initially went with Flash was that it "behaves the same on every browser" (which is less and less true), and it was reasonably fast to run the client (it's now outperformed by the newest javascript engines). It also does not offer a good "mobile" user experience (if at all). So it makes sense to use a standard-based technology, and we're moving to HTML5.

Within a couple of weeks, we're going to push a "public beta" of the HTML5 interface. The default interface will still be Flash, but if you connect to your scanner using a browser which does not have Flash installed, or if you directly go to the right URL, you'll have the option to use the beta version of the HTML5 client.  Once we're happy with the HTML5 client (end of october / early november), we'll make it the default interface (and you'll still have the option to use the Flash Interface if you want to).

The goal for this first iteration of the HTML5 interface is to offer the same features as the Flash one, while building up for the future. A lot of work has been done on the backend to make the interface work fast and smooth on most platforms.

Here are a few screenshots. Please note that this is still in developement and some items may still change:

The mobile settings are now part of the general configuration:

And that's it! I'll post something on this forum once we make the beta available in the feed, within a couple of weeks!

We're excited about that interface and can't wait to put it in your hands!
